A multi-billion dollar healthcare provider headquartered in the United States enlisted Sigital for help bolstering the security of its ServiceNow instance, including the Configuration Management Database (CMDB). The organization partnered with Sigital to harden its ServiceNow platform when faced with challenges related to data leakage, PHI security, and the integration of Okta VPN. To address these concerns, Sigital and the organization embarked on a comprehensive assessment process across instances and documentation.
During Discovery, the Sigital Team found that the organization’s hardware had devices missing environments, FQDN, and discovery sources. Additionally, applications were discovered that lacked support group/change group/manage by group fields. Sigital identified manually intensive Configuration Item (CI) processes, including stale CIs and manually retired CIs. These findings led Sigital to recommend the CMDB Health Dashboard and improvements to the CI retirement process to enhance data quality.
In response to the examination of the organization’s ServiceNow instance, Sigital recommended their CMDB readiness for the SecOps program in addition to their Vulnerability Response (VR) accelerator. Over the course of the contractual period, Sigital helped the organization improve the quality of their data by minimizing stale data, populating the discovery source for all integrations, and both determining and tracking core attributes.
In addition to improvements in data quality, Sigital increased visibility and leveraged automated processes to shift the organization from manual CI retirement to automated retirement. The shift to ServiceNow’s CMDB Health dashboard allowed the organization increased visibility into CMDB analytics, ensuring that their systems were current, accurate, and in compliance with local regulations.
